THE AGM, 27 JULY 2025
I am delighted to be able to provide you with this Newsletter as the 76th President of the Brighton Croquet Club (yes, I counted the names on the board). Following the Club Annual General Meeting on 27th July your committee now comprises:

The Committee welcomes Robin to the Committee as the only new member. Robin has been a member of the VCA working party reviewing the VCA Constitution and is now a member of the VCA Committee of Management. Robin also represents the BCC on the Bayside Regional Committee. Robin has explained the role of the Region in the context of the broader governance structure of Croquet Victoria in this Newsletter.
The service of our two outgoing Committee members, Di Commerford and Veronica Tilley, was recognized at the AGM. Both Di and Veronica have served on the Committee for several years and both have made an exceptional contribution to the Club. Our thoughts are with Di who has been laid up in hospital with a broken leg.
Our outgoing President, Marguerite Russell, having completed the maximum three-year term allowed under the Constitution (for the second time), has taken the position of Senior Vice President. Marguerite’s service to the Club was also recognized at the AGM and I look forward to receiving her considered advice throughout my term. I am sure that we will all agree that the Club has continued to advance under Marguerite’s leadership. Not so obvious is the increase in the Club’s profile with Croquet Victoria and the work Marguerite has done encouraging Croquet Victoria to increase its focus on coaching, umpiring and refereeing.
The attendance at the AGM was a little disappointing with only 17 members present. Some members have no doubt temporarily sought refuge in a warmer climate. Nevertheless, the Club is only a composite of its members and the Committee will be hoping for more attendees in 2026. Perhaps the Committee can take it as an expression of satisfaction in the direction the Club is taking?
