CLUB NEWSLETTER – August 2026

Season Opening Event
A quick reminder that the Season Opening event will be held this Sunday, 9th August, commencing at 2.30 PM, despite the not so perfect weather forecast. The Committee decided that we should proceed, even if it ends up as a chat, a cup of tea and scones (etc.), while we  end our guests out in the weather to run the first hoop.  Perfect!
We need as many members as possible to come along. Bring a plate if you wish.

Club Committee
Further to the last Newsletter advising of the composition of the Committee, there has been a further very welcome addition to the Committee. Minn Stewart will join the Committee. Minn will assist Marguerite as Club Secretary and act in the position when Marguerite is away. Minn joined the Club fairly recently. She has experience in croquet administration at other Clubs and with Croquet Victoria and is a very familiar face among the Victorian AC fraternity.
Elwood Croquet Club
The Elwood Club will be moving their equipment into Brighton on Tuesday, 8th September. We plan to host a welcome/orientation on Wednesday 9th September, with their first playing day  in Monday, 14th September.
There has been a lot of thought given to the logistics around how we can make their occupation a success for both Clubs. There will inevitably be a few hiccups. Patience and effective communication will be the key to success.
Elwood’s playing times are Mondays, Tuesdays (in part), and Fridays. We will also be making arrangements for shared (pre booked) times on Thursday and Saturday afternoons. There will be more to come explaining how these arrangements will work. In the interim, if you have any queries or concerns, please talk to a Committee
member.

Some events to put in diaries
In addition to the Elwood dates there are some events on the horizon that members need to be aware of:
• Club Season Opening – Sunday 9th August.
• Club Annual AC Tournament – Friday 4th Sept to Sunday 6th Sept & Friday 11th Sept to Sunday 13th.
• Senior Festival/Healthy Ageing Open Days – Thursday 8th October & Wednesday 21 October.
• Bayside U3A “BBQ Bash” (Seniors Festival) – 18th October (in Beaumaris).
• Club X’mas function – Sunday 29 November (possibly joint with ECC)
• U3A social event – Friday 4th December.
A reminder
The reverse cycle air conditioner in the formal meeting area was left running for an
unknown period of time recently. Whoever turns the system on needs to remember
to turn it off when leaving the Club please.
