BCC Newsletter from Committee 2nd May 2024
Hi everyone, hope you are all enjoying your croquet and welcome to our new members.
Get your diaries out and note some upcoming events.
“Antiques Roadshow”
Brighton on Bay 1200 Monday 6th May
We have been invited to this event (over 20 members and friends/families have already put their names down). It should be fun, bring along any item for evaluation, lunch is provided and the club is rewarded a voucher for $500.
Working Bee from 930 am Monday 13th May
It’s time for a bit of a spruce up of the club grounds. A job list will go up at the club but includes brushing out the cubbies, weeding, reinstalling the drip system for the garden bed at the north end on lawn 1, cutting back the hedge along the railway line and spreading some mulch. Once we are back in order, we would like keen gardeners to help maintain the gardens-let a committee member know if you are interested and have a little time.
If you can’t be there on the day, you may be able to complete a task at another time- put you name alongside the task on the list.
AGM 12:30 Sunday 28th July
We will provide a light lunch at 1200 .
All members are encouraged to attend. There will be feedback from committee and an opportunity for questions. Elections take place for the committee and fees are confirmed or varied. Official notification will be posted 14 days prior to meeting, nominations for committee must be seconded and accepted by the nominee and delivered to the secretary 7 days before the AGM. Nomination forms will be made available.
Lawns
Matt has been spraying the lawns and surrounds for various weeds, chemicals may remain in the grass- don’t forget to wash your hands after play and before eating. This applies to the Blackberries- wash before eating.
Michael Love and a number of volunteers have constructed the new garden along the South boundary near lawns 1 and 2. They are Bayside indigenous plants and once established should need very little extra watering. More planting will take place in Spring. Thanks to all the helpers and especially to Michael!
Association Croquet
Championship Association Croquet is taking place, Div 4 complete with Veronica Tilly winning – well done Veronica.
Div 2 and Div 3 in play.
Autumn pennant is drawing to a close
Brighton open tournament will take place August 30- Sun 1st inclusive and Sept 6th – 8th inclusive
Golf Croquet
Sandringham is seeking interest in playing a regional golf croquet competition. This would include Frankston, Elsternwick , Elwood and Brighton. They are seeking level of interest. Please advise via the club email if you are and include your handicap( If you don’t yet have a handicap we can organise one). Questions to Marguerite or Julie.
Beginner Classes
This is a major recruitment activity.
We have had several potential players interested in continuing after the classes but current play times do not suit, We need members to consider playing in more sessions so that new members can be included – eg Wednesday afternoon and Thursday afternoons .
Please give it a thought.
